April 30th

Rainy and mild most of the day, clearing off later in the afternoon for a while.

Notice the extreme left foreground and how much that perennial has grown in just a day! Local names include "golden globe" and "outhouse flower" ( a common area to find them). Last year this patch grew to over 8 feet high.

It snowed enough last night to accumulate a little on vehicles and the lawn.

Sunny now, but quite cold, just a few degrees above 0.

The grass is definitely getting greener. We'll be complaining about all the mowing soon enough!

April 20th

It turned sunny later on, but remained cooler than recent days.

The flower garden in the foreground finally got weeded yesterday, revealing tulips, star of David, golden globe, daffodils, peony, bee balm, columbine and tons of tiger lily

April 18th

Wet and a cool 6C

~~~~~~
On my way home today, I noticed something unusual on the beach. What was that critter that was striding with great determination westerly along the shore?
A beaver! A marine beaver?
His tracks.
Dept. of Natural Resources tells me that this kind of thing is not so unusual this time of year when the two-year-olds get chucked out of their lodge and forced to find new digs.
Seemed a little unusual to me when he set off swimming towards Matheson Beach.
April 16th
Went up to mid teen celcius today. Nearly shorts weather!
I was so excited to spot the first crocuses.
These white ones are little pathetic, but I'll take them as a sure sign of spring.
Notice how brown the grass is still.
Not a bad spot to be working today. This is the view from the cottage I was at today.
April 15th
8am and about 0C
Forecast is for warm and sunny all week. NOW we'll see some green in the grass!!
9am
After an unusually icy and snowy winter, the Canadian Salt Company stock piles are down to levels where we can actually see the plant, which is usually hidden behind them.
About 7pm.
Slowly, methodically and with great purpose, a porcupine (the black blob in the picture) approached my elm tree and climbed to about 60' for the night, nibbling on a few twigs on the way.
In the afternoon this young groundhog turned up, snacking on weeds in the lawn (the only things that are green right now). As long as he keeps out of my flower gardens later on, he can stay.
Not very shy!
