Well, I mowed, but it hardly made a difference to those damn dandelions!!

May 28th

Really, really have to mow!!

May 27th

Supposed to be rainy today, instead it is warm and fairly sunny.

Looks like I have to mow again very soon.

Daffodills.
Golden spirea, delphinium and peony in the background.

Euphorpbia polychromata
The yellow patches aren't flowers, but bracts.
(Just like the red "flowers" of Poinsettia, which is a close relative, are also bracts)

The rhubarb is already going to seed!

The one fancy tulip that escaped the marauding deer, who ate all the other tulips not growing next to the house. AND they ate some daffodils, and those are supposed to be poisonous to deer!

Do you see any hostas? No, nor do I. That's because the deer ate them all!!!

The tomato cages are a recent attempt to keep the dear little deers away.

Cold, blowing wind and rain all day. Rain stopped late afternoon. Never got over about 9C. A lobster fisherman told me they had some snow out on the Strait! I can believe it.

Cold most of the day, warming up in the afternoon.

The orange tulips in the left foreground are coming along nicely.

An uncommon sight in this garden - a red breasted grosbeak (male).

May 10th

It might have got as warm as 7C today, but (so far) none of the heavy rain predicted.

Spotted the first humming birds of the season at two different feeders. They return to the same feeders each year and if mine are not out ready for them in time, they twitter their disapproval. I cannot imagine what else they would feed on right now. There are no native plants flowering that I have noticed. They can require as much as 15,000 calories a day! From where?

The porcupine seems to have moved out.

Very happy to have mowed last night. Will be complaining about it in a few months!

Friday, May 9, 2008

May 9th

Cool and cloudy all day.

First mowing of the season in the evening of the shaggiest and driest areas. It is supposed to rain for the next several days.

Taken moments before it clouded over for the day. Showers later and cooler than yesterday.

Hope I can mow soon!

It's May 1st! What's with all this snow?!

This young porcupine is going to have to move out. It's trimming my tree branches more than is healthy for them.
